Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is the soundtrack album composed by Pritam and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya for Karan Johar’s 2016 Hindi romance film of the same name. The soundtrack album is Johar and Pritam’s first collaboration, though the latter has composed for several films produced by Dharma Productions. It is based on the film’s theme of true love and consists of situational numbers depicting the emotions of the characters Ayan (Ranbir Kapoor), Saba (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), Alizeh (Anushka Sharma), and Ali (Fawad Khan). Given the seriousness of the screenplay, Pritam composed a mix of romantic, intense, and fun songs, as opposed to routine romantic numbers. It is the fastest track to reach a million, hitting 3.5 million in a week in 2016.
