“Stille Nacht” was performed on Xmas Eve 1818 in St Nicholas parish church at Oberndorfa village at the Austrian Empire around the Salzach river at Presentday Austria. The year A priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had arrive at Oberndorf. He’d written the lyrics of this song”Stille Nacht” in 1816 in Mariapfarr, the continuation of his dad at the Salzburg Lungau place, at which Joseph had functioned like a co-adjutor.
Before Christmas Eve, Mohr attracted the voice to Gruber and asked him to write a melody and also guitar accompaniment to its Christmas Eve mass, after river flood had damaged the church penis. The church was finally destroyed by recurrent flooding and substituted with all an Silent-Night-Chapel. It’s not known what prompted the lyrics to be written by Mohr, or that which prompted him to develop a fresh carol.
The first edition was released by Friese [p ] at 1833 at a selection of Four Genuine Tyrolean Songs.
